The third installment in the Avatar saga, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is gearing up to conquer the Indian Box Office and close out 2025 with a bang. James Cameron’s latest feature releases on December 19 and is already generating massive excitement among moviegoers.
When ticket pre-sales opened on December 5, advance booking numbers shot up almost instantly. Prices for the highly anticipated IMAX version have skyrocketed in several multiplexes, and its predicted success may spell trouble for the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, which has been eyeing a long, dominating run at the Box Office.
Eager anticipation for Avatar: Fire and Ash
With over 1.3 million interests marked on BookMyShow, Avatar: Fire and Ash is proving to be just as eagerly awaited in India as it is in the US. According to Sacnilk, this level of interest could translate into collections exceeding Rs 500 crore. IMAX 3D English tickets are currently priced as high as Rs 2,400, while the cheapest morning-show tickets begin at Rs 470.
In the last 24 hours alone, 17.29K tickets have been sold on BookMyShow, and the numbers are expected to multiply if the current momentum continues. This puts Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar in a vulnerable spot, as the arrival of Fire and Ash could significantly cut into its collections. The previous installment, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), earned Rs 478 crore at the Indian box office, setting high expectations for the new film.
The overwhelming response to Fire and Ash may chip away at Dhurandhar’s earnings, despite the film crossing the Rs 100 crore mark within its opening weekend. It currently stands at over Rs 180 crore as per Sacnilk and has slightly over a week left to maximise its collections before the Na’vi take over the screens.
