Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has been arrested after the couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday.

The couple was found dead in an apparent homicide and was found with multiple stab wounds on their bodies, police had said.

Jail records indicated that Nick was held on a $4 million bail. The records did not give any details about the cause for the arrest even as TMZ reported that Nick was arrested in connection with his parents’ murder. He was taken into custody at 9:15 p.m. Sunday and booked at 5:04 a.m. (local time), according to the Los Angeles Times.

Who were Rob and Michele Reiner?

Rob, who made his 1984 directorial debut with ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, was born in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1947. His father was legendary comedian Carl Reiner and his mother was actress and singer Estelle Lebost.

Early in his career, he played Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the sitcom “All in the Family” from 1971 to 1979, alongside Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker.

Rob and Michele met when Rob directed When Harry Met Sally, and the couple married in 1989 before having four children.

Previously, Rob was married to the late Penny Marshall, who died in 2018 at age 75 of complications from diabetes.

‘No signs of forced entry at Reiner’s home’

Law enforcement sources told The Times that there was no sign of forced entry into the home. The source also said the Reiners had injuries consistent with being stabbed.

The sources said that some time after the attack, one of the couple’s children found them and law enforcement was called.

Nick’s struggles with drug abuse

Nick has cycled in and out of rehab centres and experienced bouts of homelessness as a teenager due to his drug abuse issues, according to People.

“Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in LA and being around my family,” Nick told PEOPLE in 2016.
