A lot of hope and money ride on the Diwali releases as festive season usually sets the box office cash registers ringing. On October 21, Thamma with moderate star power and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, a typical rom-com released, opened on a strong note. However, from Day 2 onwards, both the films have witnessed a sharp dip.

Thamma, India’s very own vampire comedy opened on a strong note

After earning Rs 24 crore and Rs 18.6 crore On Day 1 and Day 2 respectively, the fifth installment of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles managed to earn Rs 12.57 crore. While the genre of the film and the vampire storyline may have sparked initial interest, it perhaps isn’t able to hold the interest of the Diwali family audience. Overall the film is at Rs 55.17 crore in three days.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat performs decently at the BO

There was little buzz around Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, yet it performed decently with Rs 9 crore haul on the first day. However, the collection of the Milap Zaveri has been gradually dipping as the movie garnered Rs 7.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 6 crore on Day 3. The film has amassed Rs 22.85 crore so far.

Kantara Chapter 1 continues to win hearts

The Dussehra release Kantara Chapter 1 continues to perform steadily at the Box Office, adding to the Diwali week earnings. The film that’s now the highest grossing Indian film of 2025 collected Rs 12.5 crore on the third Wednesday of its release as the total collections stood at Rs 664.85 crore.

As both the Diwali release Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat show signs of slowdown, Kantara continues to light up the box office with its gripping storyline and powerful performances.

The verdict

“Kantara Chapter1 continues its triumphant run, despite facing two prominent releases on Tuesday… The Diwali festivities have boosted its performance, and the film is now steadily marching towards the ₹ 200 crore milestone,” posted trade analyst Taran Adarsh on his X handle.

The Rishab Shetty-starrer is surely giving the recent Bollywood releases a run for their money.
