Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before stepping into full-time politics, Jana Nayagan, is already creating a storm at the box office even before its release. Scheduled to hit theatres on January 9 during the Pongal festival, the film has opened to massive excitement, with advance ticket sales showing blockbuster-level numbers across India and overseas.

Worldwide advance bookings crosses Rs 35 crore

According to early data from Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan has earned around Rs 35 crore in worldwide advance bookings so far. Of this, India has contributed close to Rs 7 crore, while overseas markets have brought in more than Rs 25 crore. The strong start has surprised trade experts, especially since bookings are yet to fully open in Vijay’s home state.

Tamil Nadu yet to open full bookings

Advance booking has not completely begun in Tamil Nadu, which is traditionally Vijay’s biggest market. Despite limited shows being available, the film has already collected nearly Rs 1 crore from the state. With Pongal holidays approaching, expectations are high that numbers will rise sharply once full bookings open.

Overseas markets show massive demand

The response from international markets has been overwhelming. In Malaysia, where the makers recently hosted a grand audio launch, Jana Nayagan sold 50,000 tickets within just two hours. This is being seen as a record-breaking achievement for an Indian film in the country. The UK has also shown strong interest, with more than 50,000 tickets sold in advance.

Karnataka sees sky-high ticket prices

Karnataka has emerged as one of the film’s strongest Indian markets so far, contributing nearly Rs 4 crore in advance sales. In Bengaluru, ticket prices have gone as high as Rs 2,000. Theatres like Mukunda have already sold out 6:30 am shows priced between Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,000. Other early morning shows across the city, priced between Rs 800 and Rs 1,500, are also running full.

Trailer buzz and star cast

Jana Nayagan stars Vijay as a fearless police officer. The recently released trailer has added to the excitement, with viewers comparing it to the 2023 Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari. The film also has Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in lead roles.
