Happy Birthday Shah Rukh Khan: Whenever we talk about SRK, we usually recall his most amazing performances like that in Dilwale dulhania le jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Om Shanti Om and so on, But did you know that our ‘Badshah of Bollywood’ had his share of failures in Bollywood. Yes, you read that right! Before Shah Rukh Khan became the King of Romance, he did many films that people don’t talk about much today. Some were romantic, some emotional, and a few very different from what we usually see in Indian cinema.

Wondering which films we are talking about? Here is a look back at some old SRK films that shows how hard he worked to become the superstar he is now.

1. King Uncle (1993)

In this family drama directed by Rakesh Roshan, Jackie Shroff played a rich, strict man whose life changes when a cute orphan girl enters his home. Shah Rukh Khan played his kind younger brother, who brings warmth to the story. The film was inspired by the Hollywood movie Annie.

2. Guddu (1995)

How circumstances change a person, Guddu is all about that. Shah Rukh played a caring young man whose life changes after his girlfriend, played by Manisha Koirala, loses her eyesight in an accident. Directed by Prem Lalwani, the film shows how much he loves her and that he’s ready to do anything to make her see again. It’s a simple, emotional story about love, sacrifice, and faith. The film didn’t do very well, but made an impact.

3. Zamaana Deewana (1995)

This was a fun action-comedy directed by Ramesh Sippy starring Shah Rukh Khan and Raveena Tandon. They played lovers whose families are enemies. The film had big stars like Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha too. It had lots of confusion, fights, and memorable songs — everything you’d expect in a 90s entertainer. Though it didn’t work at the box office initially, but later got noticed when it was remade in Telugu with Mahesh Babu.

4. Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India (1995)

This was one of the most unusual films Shah Rukh ever did. Directed by Ketan Mehta, it was about a street performer named “Hero” (played by SRK) who wants to save India from bad people. Deepa Sahi played “Miss India.” The movie was full of strange, funny, and smart moments and not like any other Bollywood films. It didn’t do great, but critics loved its creativity.

5. Chaahat (1996)

Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, Chaahat was a passionate love story. Shah Rukh played a singer who gets caught between two women, one who loves him truly (Pooja Bhatt) and another who is obsessed with him (Ramya Krishnan). The film also had Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. It was full of strong emotions, music, and drama, the kind of movie only the 90s could make.

6. Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke (2004)

Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke was a romantic story starring Shah Rukh Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Saif Ali Khan. It was about two lovers who had to part ways, filled with emotion, drama, and heart-touching songs, just like many 90s love stories. The film began shooting in 1994 but was released much later in 2004. Due to creative differences between the makers and the actors (including SRK and Raveena), the project got delayed for years. It was finally completed using body doubles and a few new actors, including Rashmi Desai.
