Surrounding the death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his children Kiaan and Samaira, born of his marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, have lodged a lawsuit before the Delhi High Court. They have initiated legal proceedings challenging the legitimacy of a will purportedly executed by their late father. They alleged manipulation and forgery in the will by their stepmother, Priya Kapur, who was married to Sunjay at the time of his passing. Here’s a detailed account of everything that happened.

Allegations against Priya Sachdeva

According to a filing reported by Bar & Bench, Karisma Kapoor’s kids have alleged that their stepmother, along with two accomplices Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, conspired to withhold the will for over seven weeks before revealing it at a family gathering held on July 30, 2025. In their petition, the children claim, “The Plaintiffs submit that the purported will allegedly executed by the Plaintiffs’ father is not a legal and valid document, is forged and fabricated and in any event surrounded by suspicious circumstances. It is for this reason that neither the original of the Alleged Purported Will has been shown to the Plaintiffs nor a copy of the Alleged Purported Will has been provided.”

The children, represented through their mother, are requesting that the court declare them Class I legal heirs and direct a division of Sunjay Kapur’s estate, each receiving a 20 percent share.

The petition further includes that there was a deeply affectionate bond between Sunjay Kapur and his two children prior to his unexpected death on June 12, 2025.

Initially, Priya Kapur allegedly denied that there was any will. She emphasised that all of Sunjay’s wealth was held within the R.K. Family Trust. However, according to the plaintiffs, she later surfaced a document dated March 21, 2025, which she presented as a will.

Who all are involved in the lawsuit?

The litigation includes multiple parties – the plaintiffs Kiaan and Samaira, minors represented by their mother, Karisma Kapoor. The defendants are Priya Kapur (widow of Sunjay), her minor son, Sunjay’s own mother, Rani Kapur, who is residing at the family’s farmhouse in Rajokri.

The kids have also added that Sunjay repeatedly assured them of their future security and financial well being. According to their account, he had initiated business ventures in their names, acquired property directly and via corporate channels, and named them as beneficiaries of the family trust.

Earlier, Sunjay Kapur’s sister had raised objections to the will, mentioning that her mother had been excluded from the trust improperly. Now, as an interim remedy, Karisma Kapoor’s children have petitioned the court to freeze all personal assets of their late father until the dispute is resolved.

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married for 13 years and had two children together. She was his second spouse.

What does the petition include?

In the petition, the children challenge the authenticity of the March 21, 2025 will, which allegedly transfers his entire private estate to Priya Kapur. The minors argue that the failure to show or provide even a copy of this document raises serious red flags, especially given that it suddenly appeared more than seven weeks after his demise.

They also recount that between April and May 2025, Sunjay conveyed to Karisma and the children that he had acquired European assets and was pursuing Portuguese citizenship for the family, including his children with Karisma, for inheritance-related tax advantages.

“As decided by him for the plaintiffs, the necessary documentation, being the Power of Attorney was executed by the Plaintiffs. This was sent to his representative on 07.06.2025 by way of a WhatsApp message and subsequently sent in original as well,” the filing states.

Just five days subsequent to that, on June 12, Sunjay passed away while playing polo in Windsor.

What happened after Sunjay Kapur’s demise?

In the immediate aftermath, Karisma Kapoor and her children rushed to the U.K., arriving on June 14. They stayed there until June 17 before returning to India for the last rites. On June 19, their son performed the funeral pyre ceremony at Lodhi Cremation Ground.

In the weeks that followed, tensions escalated sharply. The children accuse that Priya Kapur began restricting their access to essential trust documentation and financial records. They were reportedly summoned to corporate meetings at Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (commonly known as Sona Comstar) and asked to sign documents without full disclosure regarding the trust or associated paperwork.

Karisma Kapoor’s children now await the decision whether the contested will stands or whether they qualify as rightful heirs and are entitled to a portion of Sunjay Kapur’s estate.
