After completing two weeks at the box office, the much-hyped films Coolie and War 2 are yet to cross the Rs 300-crore mark. The benchmark was set earlier by Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s romantic drama Saiyaara. Despite having massive star power, high budget promotions, and strong opening weekends, both films have fallen short of expectations in terms of box-office performance. We look at Coolie vs War 2 box office collection on day 15.
Coolie vs War 2 box office collection day 15
At the end of the second week, Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie has managed to collect a total of Rs 270.85 crore at the domestic box office. The film earned Rs 1.75 crore on its second Thursday, maintaining a steady pace but failing to match its initial collections.
On the other hand, War 2, headlined by Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has managed to earn just Rs 231.25 crore so far, with Thursday’s earning standing at Rs 1.50 crore. While the film generated a lot of buzz before its release, its collections have slowed down significantly in the second week.
In the first week, Coolie delivered an impressive performance with Rs 229.75 crore in domestic earnings. War 2 collected Rs 204.25 crore during its debut week, showing signs of early slowdown compared to Rajinikanth’s action entertainer. On its second Wednesday, War 2 managed Rs 2.50 crore, pushing its total to Rs 229.75 crore. Despite its scale and production value, the film is trailing behind Coolie in terms of overall earnings.
About War 2 and Coolie
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie marks Rajinikanth’s landmark 171st film and has been one of the most anticipated Tamil blockbusters of the year. The movie also features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles. Aamir Khan makes a special cameo appearance in the film. Coolie is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, known for backing several Rajinikanth hits in the past.
War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is the much-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. The film, part of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, brings together Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR for the first time, alongside Kiara Advani as the female lead. The makers had high expectations from the film, especially after its strong advance bookings and action-heavy sequences for the pan-Indian audiences.
While both films have performed reasonably well, industry analysts believe that crossing the Rs 300-crore mark in the coming days may prove challenging. With several big-ticket releases lined up in September, including Ayushmann Khurrana’s Alpha and Prabhas’ Spirit, competition at the box office is expected to intensify.
