17 students who took the NEET-UG examination at centres in Bihar on May 5 have been disqualified based on a report from Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU). This news follows a report by The Indian Express, which revealed that the EOU’s investigation “clearly suggests a paper leak” in the NEET-UG examination.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted a retest for 1,563 candidates who had previously received grace marks for “loss of exam time.” Of these, only 813 students (approximately 52%) attended the retest.

Students who participated in retest will receive revised scores, while those who skipped the retest will retain their original scores, excluding the grace marks.

Data shows that none of the two candidates from Chandigarh appeared for the retest. From Chhattisgarh, 291 out of 602 students appeared, 1 student from Gujarat, 287 out of 494 from Haryana, and 234 from Meghalaya’s Tura.

In response to the situation, the Centre has removed NTA Chief Subodh Kumar Singh from his position as Director-General of the NTA and placed him on “compulsory wait” in the Department of Personnel and Training. This decision comes as the NEET-PG examination, scheduled for June 23, has been postponed, affecting approximately 200,000 candidates.

The Centre has now transferred the alleged paper leak case to the CBI for further investigation.
