A well-known name for engineering courses in India, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, launched a new Master’s program called, ‘Culture, society, thought’ on Monday. The two-year program, launched by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, will be accepting admission from March 20.

The program is aimed to focus on core disciples of sociology, literature and philosophy. The head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences says, “The new programme explores aspects of contemporaneity and interdisciplinarity across disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.”

“Its location at IIT-Delhi gives it a unique vantage point to generate a new corpus of knowledge, populate new kinds of archives, and develop critical methodologies to give new directions to humanities and social science research from the global south,” adding to it.

According to an official from IIT-Delhi, the application process for admission to this program will commence on March 20 and conclude on April 4. Classes for the program are scheduled to commence in July.

Prospective candidates interested in enrolling in the program must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA for BA, and first division for all other degrees, as per the institute’s requirements.

The admission procedure involves shortlisting candidates through an entrance examination or GATE 2024 score, followed by interviews of the shortlisted candidates in May 2024, officials stated. The fee structure for the program will be consistent with other postgraduate programs offered by the Institute.

An official mentioned that the program aims to prepare and equip students for various fields, including research, academia, social work, think tanks, media, and policymaking, both in government and non-governmental organizations, as well as research institutes and social entrepreneurship organizations.

Furthermore, graduates from the Master’s program will have the opportunity to pursue doctoral programs offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT-Delhi, as well as other international doctoral programs, the official added.
