A complaint has been filed against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in a Muzaffarpur court over her comment referring to President Droupadi Murmu as a “poor thing” following the President’s address to Parliament.
Sudhir Ojha, a local lawyer, filed the complaint on Saturday, seeking the registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi for allegedly disrespecting the country’s highest constitutional office. Ojha also named Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as co-accused, claiming they should also face legal action.
Ojha argued that Gandhi’s remark was an insult to President Murmu and a violation of the dignity of the office. The complaint has been submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Muzaffarpur, which will hear the matter on February 10.
The controversy erupted after President Murmu’s joint address to Parliament ahead of the Budget session. When reporters asked Sonia Gandhi about the President’s speech, she was heard saying, “The President was getting very tired by the end… she could hardly speak, poor thing.” Rahul Gandhi can also be heard in the video calling her speech “boring,” and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was present during the exchange.
Following the incident, the Rashtrapati Bhavan condemned the remark, calling it “unacceptable” and stating that President Murmu was not tired during the speech. The statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan said that comments that undermine the dignity of the office of the President were inappropriate.
