Odisha Legislative Assembly Election Results 2024: The BJP on Tuesday won the election in Odisha, taking over from the BJD, which had been in power for 24 years. According to the data provided by the Election Commission of India, the BJP secured 78 out of 147 seats in the Odisha Assembly. The BJD won 51 seats. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who leads the BJD, won in Hinjili but lost in Kantabanji. The Congress, on the other hand, got 14 seats, while the CPI(M) got one. Independents won three seats. In 2019, the BJD had won 113 seats, BJP bagged 23, and Congress had won 9.
Basking in victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took to platform X and wrote, “Thank you Odisha! It’s a resounding victory for good governance and celebrating Odisha’s unique culture. BJP will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling the dreams of people and taking Odisha to new heights of progress.”

As the BJP progresses towards a win in the Odisha Assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the people of the state and pledged his party's commitment to realizing their aspirations. In a statement on X, the Prime Minister remarked, "Thank you, Odisha! This is a significant victory for effective governance and the rich culture of Odisha. The BJP is dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of the people and propelling Odisha to greater heights of development." Modi also expressed pride in the diligent efforts of all the hardworking BJP workers during the Odisha elections.
Naveen Patnaik is currently ahead in the Hinjili seat by a margin of 4,782 votes after the sixteenth round of counting. The battle for Odisha between the BJP and BJD concludes today, with the Bharatiya Janata Party set to form the next government after winning in 32 seats.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is currently trailing in Kantabanji assembly seat after 15 rounds of vote counting.
Hemant Soren’s sister, Anajani Soren, is contesting from both the Saraskana Assembly seat and the Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha seat. Despite leading earlier in the day, Ms. Soren is now falling behind two other candidates. BJP’s Bhadav Hansdah is currently in the lead for the seat, followed by BJD’s Debashis Marndi.

BJD's Romancha Ranjan Biswal is currently leading with 22,876 votes from the Deogarh Assembly seat.

BJP candidate Bhabani Shankar Bhoi is currently leading with 17,048 votes from the Talsara Assembly seat.

According to the ECI result tracker, BJD's Dipali Das is leading from the Jharsuguda constituency.
Earlier, there were reports of BJP and BJD joining forces in the state. However, the two former allies failed to reach an agreement and are now pitted against each other. Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD), which has been the ruling party in Odisha since 2000, is now facing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in a three-way contest. It is going to be interesting to see if the two national parties can dislodge the Patnaik-led government in Odisha.
