Milkipur By-Election Results 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister left no stone unturned to ensure a BJP victory in the high profile Milkipur By-poll. His strategy has cast a shadow on Akhilesh’s caste calculus for 2027 state elections

Bharatiya Janata Party’s significant victory in the Milkipur seat of Uttar Pradesh is being seen as a revenge act for Ayodhya during the general elections held last June. The election result comes as a big setback for Samajwadi Party, which is preparing for Mission-2027, to grab power back from BJP in the state.

After reports of fissures within BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, reports suggest Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath turned tables for his party in just 8 months. He took charge of the election campaign for Chandrbhanu Paswan in Milkipur, while Akhilesh Yadav, exerted his full strength, and ensured a victory for his party.

Experts believe, the results not only proved CM Yogi’s strategy highly successful but also indicated that the Samajwadi Party, which considers the (Backward-Dalit-Minority) formula as its mantra for victory, needs to make some strategic changes for Mission-2027.

BJP Celebrates Victory in Milkipur

Big celebratory atmosphere engulfed the party after the Milkipur win. At the vote-counting centre, former Faizabad MP Lallu Singh joined Chandrabhan Paswan when he arrived to collect the victory certificate.

The loss of the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat last year was considered a significant setback for BJP in political circles. The Samajwadi Party and Congress left no stone unturned in attacking BJP over this defeat. Akhilesh Yadav even kept Faizabad’s winning MP Awadhesh Prasad seated beside him in the Lok Sabha, repeatedly emphasizing that despite the grand construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the people there had rejected BJP.

However, BJP had already begun countering this political setback. In the November 2024 by-elections, BJP won six out of nine seats, while Samajwadi Party secured two and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) one. While this helped BJP balance its Lok Sabha election losses to some extent, Milkipur remained a crucial target.

BJP’s Strategic Push in Milkipur

After the Samajwadi Party announced Ajit Prasad, son of Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad, as its candidate for Milkipur, BJP crafted its strategy around this decision, factoring in local social equations and political calculations. CM Yogi Adityanath took charge of the campaign personally, conducting multiple public meetings in Milkipur. Additionally, key BJP leaders were assigned specific responsibilities, and half a dozen ministers were deployed to oversee BJP’s election campaign in the constituency.

At the booth level, BJP conducted an extensive ground campaign, mobilizing party workers effectively. The impact of strong booth management was visible on February 5, polling day, as BJP workers ensured that every single vote was cast in their favour.

With a well-coordinated strategy and meticulous execution, BJP maintained a lead from the first to the final round of counting, ultimately securing a historic victory in Milkipur. Chandrabhan Paswan’s victory is being regarded as BJP’s most significant win in the constituency. Furthermore, it is also seen as a revenge victory for BJP’s defeat in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat last year.
