Milkipur Bypoll Election Result 2025 Live: BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan has won the bypoll by defeating Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad by a margin of 61,710 votes. Paswan maintained a commanding lead in the Milkipur Assembly bypoll, extending his margin to over 1,00,000 votes over Prasad at one point during the counting.
As per the latest figures, Paswan has secured 1,46,397 votes, while Ajit Prasad, son of SP’s Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad, has garnered 84,687 votes. Santosh Kumar of the Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) was on the third place with 5,459 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated after Awadhesh Prasad vacated the seat following his election to the Lok Sabha last year. While the SP is keen to retain control over the constituency, the BJP sees this election as an opportunity to avenge its defeat in Faizabad during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
After weeks of vigorous campaigning by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP is aiming to regain Milkipur, a region close to Ayodhya, from the SP in a high-stakes contest. In Milkipur, a total of 10 candidates competed, with the primary contest between Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chandrabhanu Paswan. The vote counting for the Milkipur constituency commenced at 8 am, with a total of 29 rounds scheduled, according to multiple media reports.

This time, SP has fielded Awadhesh’s son, Ajit Prasad, to contest against BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan, with both candidates representing the influential Pasi community. The campaign period was marked by heated exchanges, with the SP attacking the BJP over the recent Maha Kumbh Mela stampede that claimed 30 lives and the brutal rape-murder of a Dalit woman in Ayodhya. Meanwhile, Yogi Adityanath criticised SP for an alleged sexual assault of a Dalit woman by a local member of Akhilesh’s party.
After 25 rounds of counting, BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan continues to dominate, surpassing 1.26 lakh votes and maintaining a strong lead.
Akhilesh Yadav BJP of ‘misusing’ electoral machinery
Accusing the BJP of “misusing” the electoral machinery to win elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said, “The true victory of PDA in Ayodhya in the Lok Sabha elections is many times greater than their false victory in the Milkipur Assembly and will always be so.”
In a post on X, Yadav also said, “The BJP cannot face the growing power of PDA on the basis of votes, that is why it tries to win by misusing the electoral machinery.
“The level of manipulation of officials required to carry out such electoral fraud may be possible in one assembly constituency, but this ‘chaar sau beesee’ (apparently referring to cheating) will not work in 403 assembly constituencies. The BJP members also know this, that is why the BJP members postponed the bye-election of Milkipur,” he said.
Paswan thanks Modi, Yogi for support
With the BJP poised to reclaim Milkipur from the Samajwadi Party, BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He stated, “I thank Modi ji and Yogi ji. I am deeply grateful to the voters for their tremendous support and respect.” Union Minister OP Rajbhar emphasised that the people of Ayodhya and Milkipur have once again chosen development and reaffirmed their trust in Yogi Adityanath.
Breakdown of SP’s arrogance, says BJP MP Dinesh Sharma
As the BJP candidate took the lead in the early rounds of vote counting in UP’s Milkipur bye-election, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma described the results as a sign of the “breakdown of the Samajwadi Party’s arrogance.” He added, “The positive outcome in Milkipur reflects the fall of the Samajwadi Party’s arrogance ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Samajwadi Party should accept their defeat with grace and love,” Sharma told ANI.
