SP candidate list 2024: Barely hours after Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav snubbed the Congress party’s invitation to attend the Rahulo Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi and Raebareli, making it conditional on the finalisation of a seat-sharing deal, his party on Monday announced its second list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The list of 11 candidates includes Afzal Ansari, son of UP strongman Mukhtar Ansari, among others. The party’s declaration comes amid a deadlock with the Congress on the issue of seat-sharing in Uttar Pradesh that sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha.

On Monday, Akhilesh refused to attend Rahul’s yatra and said that he will only participate in it once the seat-sharing talks have been formalised with the Congress. The SP also revised its earlier stand and offered a higher number (17) of seats to the Congress.
Besides Ansari, the sitting BSP MP from Ghazipur, the other candidates include Harendra Malik and Neeraj Maurya, among others. In its previous list, the party had announced 16 candidates for the Lok Sabha. This list takes the SP’s tally to 27 so far.

The development comes just days after the SP’s trusted partner, the Rashtriya Lok Dal led by Jayant Chaudhary, announced its decision to part ways with the alliance and joined the BJP-led NDA. On January 30, the SP had announced candidates for 16 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, and two other leaders from the Yadav family — Akshay Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav — featured in the SP’s first list released on January 30.
The SP also named Awadhesh Prasad, a nine-time MLA who represents the Milkipur assembly constituency in the UP Assembly, as its candidate from Faizabad which covers the Ayodhya district. Sitting MP Dimple Yadav has been fielded from Mainpuri, while party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq, a five-time MP, will contest from Sambhal.
