In the previous elections held in 2018, Congress emerged as the clear winner with 68 seats in the 90-seat assembly. The BJP, which had been in power in the state for 15 years, was relegated to the Opposition with just 15 seats.
In terms of vote share, the Congress had polled 43 per cent votes while 33 per cent of votes were polled in favour of the BJP. Despite the difference in vote share of just 10 per cent, the BJP finished far behind the Congress as the results showed.
In the coming elections, the BJP is expected to reduce the gap in vote share by 5 per cent but will still fall short of a majority, as per the survey. While the Congress is ecxpected to shore up 51 seats, 17 lower than its 2018 tally of 68, the BJP is predicted to more than double its tally from 15 to 38 in the coming elections, the India Today-CVoter opinion poll suggests. Others are likely to be limited to 1 seat in 2013, down six seats from its tally of 7 in the 2018 elections.
The Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections are expected to be held in November this year. The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the poll schedule for the state any day now. In 2018, the poll panel had announced the election schedule on October 6. Polling was held in two phases in the state on November 12 and November 20. The results were announced on December 11.
