ADIA to invest Rs 4,966.80 cr in Reliance Retail
Abu Dhabi Investment Authority will invest ₹4,966.80 crore into Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited. This investment values RRVL at a pre-money equity value of ₹ 8.381 lakh crore, which makes it among the top four companies by equity value in the country.
Meghalaya govt activates helpline number for state residents stuck in Sikkim
The Government of Meghalaya has launched a helpline number 1800-345-3644 for its citizens who may need assistance due to the natural tragedy in Sikkim. According to a news statement from the Meghalaya government, “students and residents of the State can call the helpline number 1800-345-3644 for assistance they may need related to the above-mentioned calamity.”
Cong holds protest outside Delhi BJP office
Congress workers on Friday staged a protest outside BJP’s Delhi unit office against the party for portraying Rahul Gandhi as a “new age Ravan” in a social media poster. The protesters burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raised slogans against him. Disney has held talks with Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Sun TV Network owner Kalanithi Maran as well private equity firms to sell its streaming and television business in the country, Bloomberg News reported on Friday. Indian steel firms plan price rises as coking coal costs surge
Indian steel companies plan to raise prices of various grades of the alloy due to rising import costs of coking coal, especially from major producer Australia, officials at four domestic mills said. Steel mills are likely to raise rates by $25 to $50 a metric ton by December, said the officials, who did not wish to be named as they are not authorised to speak to media. (Reuters)
SC refuses to restrain Bihar govt from publishing further data from caste survey
The Supreme Court Friday refused to restrain the Bihar government from publishing further data from its caste survey, saying it cannot stop the state from taking any policy decision. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V N Bhatti issued a formal notice on a batch of pleas challenging the August 1 order of the Patna High Court that gave the go-ahead for the caste survey in Bihar. It listed the matter in January, 2024. (READ MORE)
Aid for flood-hit Sikkim
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the release of Rs 44.8 crore as an advance amount from the central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Sikkim to provide relief to flash floods-affected people. Following a directive from Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has formed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), which will visit the affected areas of Sikkim soon to make an assessment of the damage caused due to a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), cloudburst and flash floods, according to an official statement. Four fishermen missing after boat capsizes, rescue mission on
Four fishermen went missing in the sea off the Munambam coast near here after their fibre boat capsized, coastal police said on Friday. Three others in the boat, who were hanging on to water cans, were rescued by a fishing vessel in the vicinity. The Indian Coast Guard initiated rescue operations and a search is on to find the missing fishermen after the boat overturned on Thursday night. (PTI)
RBI maintains status quo, keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced its fourth bi-monthly monetary policy today. The three-day meeting, headed by Governor Shaktikanta Das began on October 4. The central bank decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent and stance of ‘withdrawal of accommodation. (READ MORE)

The toll in the flash flood in Sikkim mounted to 21 on Friday as Army and NDRF teams worked their way through slushy earth and fast flowing water in the Teesta river basin and downstream north Bengal for the third day in search of those who were swept away and are still missing, officials said. 4 dead in Amritsar blaze
Four people were killed after a major fire broke out inside a pharmaceutical factory on the outskirts of Amritsar city on Thursday night, police said. Police said on Friday that the fire broke out in a pharma unit at the Nag Kala village area on the Majitha road located on the city outskirts. (PTI)
Ukrainian grain silo damaged by drone attack near Danube
Russian drones attacked port infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odesa region, damaging a grain silo in the Izmail district in the early hours of Friday, regional governor Oleh Kiper said. Nine trucks caught fire at the site, he wrote on the Telegram messaging app, adding that the fire has since been put out. There were no casualties, Kiper said. (Reuters)
