Months after eight police personnel were suspended after the Parliament security breach incident, the Parliament Security Service has issued an order asking the Delhi Police to reinstate them, reports The Indian Express.
On December 13 last year, two men with smoke canisters had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor’s gallery. While one man was seen jumping across desks to evade security personnel, another one sprayed smoke from a canister. Both of them were later overpowered by the MPs and security staff.
The incident took place on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, when terrorists entered the Parliament complex and began shooting with AK-47 rifles, leaving nine dead.
Following last year’s incident, a preliminary probe by a committee headed by CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh found lapses and eight security personnel of the Delhi Police were suspended for the breach.
However, a source in the security establishment told IE that during review it was found that all the police personnel had checked all the visitors.
However, since there was no mandate to check shoes, so it wasn’t done.
“One of the suspended police personnel was also about to retire, so he made his representation,” the source said.
Following the incident, the Centre asked the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to carry out a survey of the Parliament premises, and had sent a contingent of 140 personnel in January for training.
The task was done by Delhi Police earlier. Last year, CISR replaced 150 personnel of the Delhi Police, who used to be deployed along with the Parliament Security Service.
Meanwhile, the security of the Parliament complex has been handed over to the CISF personnel, the process for which started on Tuesday and will be completed over a week.
