2019 Indian General Election Result: PM Narendra Modi tendered his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday  after the Union Cabinet passed a resolution to dissolve the 16th Lok Sabha. The BJP won 303 seats while the Congress managed to come first on 52 seats, as per the final result of Lok Sabha election 2019 declared by the Election Commission.

On the other hand, the  Congress Working Committee will meet in New Delhi on Saturday to deliberate upon the party’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections. A PTI report said that Rahul Gandhi may offer to resign as Congress president. The Congress party was faced with a humiliating defeat in the general elections yet again. The Congress had won just 44 seats in 2014.

After the Cabinet’s recommendation is passed in the form of a resolution, President Ram Nath Kovind will dissolve the present Lok Sabha, thus initiating the process to constitute the 17th LokSabha. The term of the 16th Lok Sabha expired on June 3. The swearing-in of the new Modi government will be held on May 30 while on May 28, PM Modi will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi where he will hold a roadshow. Modi has retained the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat by a huge margin of 4.80 lakh votes.

PM Modi gets official certificate from Election Commission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met the BJP cadres from Varanasi and received the official certificate from the Election Commission for his victory in Lok Sabha polls. PM Modi has won from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 478,690 votes. He tweeted, "Party colleagues from Kashi gave me the official certificate of election from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency! Feel happy to be representing one of the oldest and most vibrant centres of Indian culture."

BJP wins 303 Lok Sabha seats in final tally

The Election Commission has announced the final counting figures of Lok Sabha elections 2019. The BJP has won on 303 seats while Congress has managed to win on 52 seats, the final tally reads. The grand old party faced with a humiliating defeat in the general elections once again. It has got three seats less than the minimum required to get the state of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. In the 2014 general elections, the BJP had won 284 seats while the Congress had won just 44 seats in 2014.

Delhi: More than Over 15,000 votes cast through postal ballots

Over 15,000 votes were cast through postal ballots in the national capital for the Lok Sabha polls including 131 in the NOTA category.According to data shared by the Delhi Chief Electoral Office, a total of 15, 235 votes were cast through postal ballots. The maximum postal ballots - 4,514 votes - were counted in West Delhi followed by North East Delhi at 3,429 votes.
