The upcoming wedding of Reliance Industries scion Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is now the center of attention. This wedding has left Mumbaikars feeling mostly frustrated. Mumbai’s most densely populated areas will have standstill traffic for four days to give way to the wedding guests.
Mumbai Traffic Police tweeted on July 5 that all roads near the wedding venue – Jio World Convention Centre will open only for “event vehicles,” between 1 pm and midnight July 12-15.
“Due to a public event at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex on July 5th and from July 12th to 15th, 2024, the following traffic arrangements will be in place for the smooth flow of traffic,” read the post by Mumbai Traffic Police. Alternative routes were also shared for commuters to follow.
Entry for vehicular traffic proceeding to Kurla MTNL from Laxmi Tower Junction, Dhirubai Ambani Square Avenue Lane-3, Indian Oil Petrol Pump, Diamond Junction, Hotel Trident is restricted exempting event vehicles.
Alternative routes include a left turn at Laxmi Tower Junction, proceeding to Diamond Gate no. 8, then a right turn at NABARD Junction and Dimaond Junction to reach BKC via Dhirubai Ambani Square/Indian Oil Petrol Pump.
With monsoon season in the city, citizens were already facing issues due to waterlogging which caused congestion in the traffic.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning at 8 am on Friday stating that “intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai during next 3-4 hours.”
Traffic has already slowed in the immediate area around the venue, which is being adorned with decorative lights and red flowers. Marigolds and bright yellow lights have also been used to decorate the trees outside Ambani’s 27-story mansion, Antilia, in Mumbai.
