Mukesh Ambani on Sunday outlined Reliance’s plan to invest ₹7 lakh crore in the state of Gujarat over the next five years to develop the state’s capabilities across sectors such as AI and renewable energy.

Speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot on Sunday (January 11), Ambani told the conference about Reliance’s plans to spread the investment amount across 5 key commitments that have been listed as follows.

Investment and employment creation

Ambani hailed Reliance as the biggest private investor in Gujarat, having invested over ₹3.5 lakh crore in the state over the past five years. Ambani laid out employment creation as the company’s first commitment to the state through its ongoing and upcoming projects.

“We will double our precious investment of ₹3.5 lakh crore to ₹7 lakh crore over the next five years. This will create exponential employment, livelihoods, and prosperity for every Gujarati and every Indian,” he said at the conference. “For Reliance, Gujarat is our body, heart, and soul. We are a Gujarati company,” he added.

Global leadership in green energy

As a part of Reliance’s second commitment to the state, Ambani intends to establish Indian leadership in clean energy and green materials with Gujarat’s Jamnagar at the heart of his plans.

At Jamnagar, Reliance is building the world’s largest integrated clean energy ecosystem which includes manufacturing of solar power, battery energy storage, green hydrogen, green fertilisers, sustainable aviation fuel, maritime fuels, and advanced materials.

“Jamnagar, once the world’s largest exporter of hydrocarbon fuels, will in the coming years become India’s largest exporter of green energy and green materials,” Ambani proclaimed at the event.

Powering India’s growth story

Promising to produce a large amount of electric energy, Ambani said that Reliance’s multi-gigawatt, utility-scale solar project, among the largest in the world, will deliver round-the-clock clean power through advanced storage and modern grid integration aimed at powering India’s growth story.

Artificial intelligence

The fourth commitment is to make Gujarat India’s artificial intelligence pioneer. Speaking at the conference that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambani said Jio is building India’s largest AI-ready data centre in Jamnagar with the goal of making AI affordable and accessible to every Indian.

“Jio will launch India’s first people-centric AI platform, built in India for India and the world. It will enable every citizen, starting from Gujarat, to access AI services in their own language, on their own devices, every day, making them more efficient and productive,” he declared.

Preparing for 2036 Olympics

Reliance’s fifth commitment engages the company in a partnership with the Gujarat government’s Olympic ambitions and social initiatives. At the conference, Ambani said the Reliance Foundation fully supports the Prime Minister’s vision of bringing the 2036 Olympic Games to Ahmedabad.

“As part of this effort, Reliance will partner with the Gujarat government to manage the Veer Savarkar Multisports Complex in Naranpura, which will serve as a hub for national and international sporting events and for training future champions,” he said.

Ambani also announced the establishment of a world-class hospital in Jamnagar in the Saurashtra region and the expansion of Reliance’s educational institutions. “The development of Gujarat is central to everything we do,” he added.

Towards the end of his address, Ambani noted the recent changes in the world’s geopolitical order and said that India remained resilient. “The world is changing rapidly and geopolitical developments are creating new challenges and uncertainties. India however remains resilient,” he concluded.
