In India’s tech, media, and telecom sectors, nearly 80% of the technology companies have deployed at least one generative AI application in their businesses, compared to only half of the companies in media and entertainment, and telecom sectors, a PwC survey showed.
Among these tech companies, nearly 80% have deployed GenAI applications for automated coding and testing and in the integration and deployment of tools. “Popular tools such as GitHub Copilot and Tabnine help in code completion, while Selenium and Appium-based testing tools specialise in robust code testing by creating diverse test cases,” the report noted.
Among tech, media, and telecom (TMT) firms that have rolled out their initial GenAI solution, the focus is primarily on product or service enhancement, while the telecom sector emphasises cost optimisation. As far as return on GenAI investment goes, 40% of C-suite executives in these sectors, are on track to achieve the expected RoI, while another 32% leaders in the technology sector expect to realise the desired RoI within the next year. However, 30% of telecom sector respondents are uncertain about when they will achieve the desired RoI.
Despite the uncertainty on returns, more than half of the business leaders in the TMT sector place GenAI deployment among their top 3 strategic priorities, with 66% of them making high investments in this technology. But when it comes to implementation, the survey showed that technology and media companies prefer external consultants, while telecom companies prefer in-house development of GenAI’s implementation strategies.
