Online food delivery platform Swiggy has rolled out DeskEats, a new offering designed to cater specifically to working professionals across India. The initiative, which has gone live across over 7,000 tech parks, corporate complexes and business centres in 30 cities, aims to position food delivery as an integral part of the workday routine.

2 lakh restaurants

The company claims DeskEats spans over seven lakh menu items from more than 2 lakh restaurants, and is currently available in cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gurugram, Pune and Kolkata. The feature can be accessed by typing “Office” or “Work” within the Swiggy app.

DeskEats is structured around curated collections such as Value Combos, Stress Munchies, Healthy Nibbles, Teamwork Bites and One-handed Grabbies, with each category designed to address a specific workday scenario, be it a solo desk lunch or a quick snack between meetings.

Consumption patterns

According to the company, initial consumption patterns from Swiggy’s pilot phase reveal some emerging trends. In the Stress Munchies category, Chicken Popcorn was the most-ordered item in Bengaluru, Fries topped Mumbai’s preference, while Garlic Breadsticks found favour in Gurugram. Meanwhile, across cities, salads dominated the Healthy Nibbles category.

Interestingly, Mumbai emerged as the leading city for DeskEats adoption, and the One-handed Grabbies collection, designed for easy, no-cutlery consumption, accounted for nearly 30% of total DeskEats orders, signalling a demand for efficiency over elaborate meals.

The launch of DeskEats builds on Swiggy’s ongoing focus on workplace consumption. Earlier this year, the company introduced a corporate rewards programme for employees across 14,000 organisations, aimed at deepening engagement with office-goers. The firm claims it has seen significant traction from this cohort, with participation from 1.5 lakh employees in less than three months.
