Films released in July 2024 grossed Rs 593 crores at the domestic box office, reveals Ormax Media report. The report further revealed that 65% of the month’s box office came from just three films – Deadpool & Wolverine, Raayan and Indian 2. Furthermore, the cumulative box office for January to July releases stands at Rs 5598 crores which is four percent below as compared to the same period in 2023.
As per the report, the highest grossing month was June with a collection of Rs 1253 crores. The top 10 movies faring this month across all languages are Deadpool & Wolverine, Raayan, Indian 2, Bad Newz, Kill, Sarfira, Despicable Me 4, Twisters, Gharat Ganpathi, and Devadoothan. Deadpool & Wolverine emerges as the top grossing film of the month, reveals the report. It also is the highest grossing hollywood film in India as far as this year is concerned, surpassing Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Only four films have been able to gross more than ₹50 Cr in July 2024, highlighting the overall underperformance of the box office in the month.
Additionally, from January to July, the film that earned the highest gross domestic box office across all languages was Kalki 2898 AD at Rs 777 crores, followed by Fighter at Rs 243 crores and Hanu-Man at Rs 240 crores.
As far as languages are concerned, Hindi has the highest share in gross domestic office in 2024 with 35%. Telugu comes second with 21%, Malayalam with 14% and Tamil at 13%. The share of the Malayalam film industry has seen a steady decline from 19% in May to 14% in July, reveals the report. Malayalam cinema grossed only Rs 9 Cr in July 2024, with the highest-grosser being the re-release of the 2000 film Devadoothan.
