Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Sharad Datta, general manager, JW Marriott New Delhi, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination, and more.
Q1. What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
Beyond work, my top priority is spending meaningful Family time.
Q2. How do you spend your weekends?
Weekends for me are all about two things: catching up with family and doing things I love. Whether it’s hitting the golf course or watching a good movie, I try to make the most of my free time. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and inspiration that keeps me recharged for the week ahead!
Q3. What are your favorite gadgets?
I am a minimalist when it comes to gadgets, however, my must-haves include the essentials: a versatile phone, a smartwatch for seamless connectivity, and AirPods for some good music.
Q4. Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
Indian Defence Services. I have three generations of defence officers in my family. The sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism associated with such a career deeply resonates with my values.
Q5. Which is your favorite vacation spot?
When it comes to unwinding and creating cherished memories, Costa Del Sol in Spain stands out as my favorite vacation spot. The stunning landscapes, sun kissed beaches and vibrant culture make it an unforgettable destination.
Q6. A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching
TV Shows – I found ‘The Bear’ to be packed with valuable leadership lessons for both the restaurateur and the corporate leader, and ‘Seinfeld’ captivates with its focus on trivial, mundane aspects of life that are often exaggerated for comedic effect.
Movie – Shawshank Redemption, it isn’t just a movie for me, it’s a reminder of hope. Andy Dufresne’s spirit against all odds? Gets me every time. It’ll stay with you long after the credits roll.
Ad Campaign – When it comes to iconic ad campaigns, Nike’s “Just Do It” stands tall for me. Launched in 1988, this campaign is more than a tagline; it’s a global movement. With simple yet powerful messages and visuals of athletes pushing their limits, “Just Do It” has inspired countless individuals including myself to strive for personal achievement. Its enduring legacy continues to resonate, showcasing the profound impact of a well-crafted message that speaks to the universal desire to overcome challenges and reach our full potential.
