SS Rajamouli’s epic film Baahubali: The Epic is all set to make its OTT debut after a successful re-release in theatres. The film is a combined version of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), edited into a single feature. Prabhas-starrer was re-released in cinemas on October 31 and has now found its way to an OTT platform.
When and where to watch Baahubali: The Epic
Baahubali: The Epic will start streaming on Netflix on Thursday, December 25, making it a special Christmas release for fans. While Netflix India’s social media pages are yet to officially announce the release, the streaming app already shows the film listed for a December 25 premiere.
The film has a long runtime of 3 hours and 43 minutes. Its synopsis says the story follows a warrior who returns years after his father’s betrayal to reclaim the throne of Mahishmati. This version is a remastered single-film edit of the two-part Baahubali saga. Interestingly, the end credits also tease an upcoming animated project titled Baahubali: The Eternal War, which will be directed by Ishan Shukla.
The film’s theatrical re-release performance
The OTT release comes 55 days after the film’s theatrical re-release. This is longer than the usual gap, as most Telugu films arrive on streaming platforms within three to four weeks of their cinema run. Despite this, Baahubali: The Epic performed strongly at the box office during its re-release.
Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan and Nassar, the film reportedly collected Rs 51.72 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk. With this, it has become the highest-grossing re-released film, beating earlier re-release successes like Sanam Teri Kasam, Tumbbad and Ghilli.
The original Baahubali films were massive hits. Baahubali: The Beginning earned ₹650 crore globally, while Baahubali 2: The Conclusion went on to collect Rs 1,788 crore. Together, they form the second-highest-grossing film franchise in India, after the YRF Spy Universe.
What SS Rajamouli is working on next
