Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Anshul Kamath, founder, Evolve, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
- What is the one thing you like to do when not working?

I thoroughly enjoy watching cricket and tennis, so any chance I get to watch some matches, I take them. However, running a start-up barely leaves a lot of time for watching sports regularly. I have also recently started practicing yoga and it’s a personal self-growth challenge for me to get better at it!
- How do you spend your weekends?

I like exploring new restaurants in the city, watching live music and generally unwinding with yoga and meditation whenever I do take a break. Enjoying new experiences keeps me charged and allows me to constantly inspire myself and push my own boundaries! The lessons we learn and experience during our down time can have a real impact in our own work and passions.
- What are your favourite gadgets?

I recently tested out the Apple VisionPro at Apple’s new Development Centre in Bangalore, and that was a gadget that I feel can really change the way we experience daily life events and programs on the TV. But if we account for something in the market, I love the Amazon Kindle because it’s like having your own personal library wherever you are.
- Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?

I would start my own Scuba Diving School and be an instructor. I am Advanced Level Diver and being underwater brings me a lot of joy and peace. Scanning the depths of the ocean and exploring the natural beauty below is very humbling, and to be able to help others experience that would bring me a lot of joy.
- Which is your favourite vacation spot?

Andaman Islands, because Scuba Diving is my go-to activity when I want an escape and unwind from work. It’s the perfect getaway spot in India with a rich marine life and facilities for Scuba Diving. To anyone out there wondering if it is worth it, I can assure you, you won’t regret it!
- A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching

The Man From Earth. It’s a movie about a retiring college professor who reveals to his fellow colleagues that he is 14,000 years old. The movie consists entirely of dialogue and each professor questions the protagonist based on their academic expertise, to figure out if he is lying or actually 14,000 years old.
The movie is extremely thought provoking, makes you reflect on the history of human life, and it reinforces the idea that no matter the production budget, no matter the quality of the camera and no matter the stardom of your cast… If the content is good enough, your art and your product will do well! That’s a philosophy I try to embody within Evolve as well.
If our content is great and we can weave a fabulous story that actually helps our user and makes a difference to their mental health, we have quality product.
