After making a substantial name in the world of generative AI, Open AI is all set to venture into the world search engine, one that has been dominated by Google with 91.05% search engine market share within the holds of the company as per the data of last year from Statcounter.
From what is believed, this feature inculcates the ease of ChatGPT with that of a search engine browser by giving prompt answers, mentioning sources, updating AI’s memory and providing the consumer answers to potential follow up questions and also help the consumer in better understanding by providing visual imagery.
The announcement made on Thursday paves way for the AI giant into a bigger arena where it will have to compete with entities like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc. Another emerging competitor in the market is Amazon and Nvidia backed Perplexity, which is working to provide a similar structured search engine with AI.
Currently in the prototype stage and not available to the public yet, consumers can join the waitlist to test the latest model. Many search engines have attempted to integrate AI into their interfaces. Google, for example, introduced a feature that offers summarized responses directly within the search results, eliminating the need for users to visit individual websites. Similarly, Microsoft has launched a comparable feature for Bing.
How will Search GPT navigate through the complexities of third party cookies? Will it have an option for the consumers to opt out of revealing their personal information? Open AI is yet to answer all these questions in the same scenario where the globally dominating leader, Google, is already struggling.
