In a significant move to enhance intra-state connectivity, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday inaugurated the ‘PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva’ by flagging off the first flight from Bhopal to Jabalpur. The Chief Minister also distributed boarding passes to passengers and inaugurated a ticket-booking counter, marking the commencement of this new air service.
Enhanced connectivity across key cities
With the launch of this service, several major cities in Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Rewa, Khajuraho, and Singrauli, will now be interconnected by air, officials said. This initiative is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and promote tourism and business travel within the state.
Promotional fare discount
To encourage initial adoption, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) announced a 50% discount on fares for the first 30 days. Some travelers have noted that the discounted fare of the new air service is only slightly higher than the fare of the Vande Bharat Express train, making it a viable and faster alternative.
The air service, operated by the MPTB, is being run on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis in collaboration with Jet Serv Aviation Private Limited (Flyola).
Rapid transit
The air service significantly reduces travel time between key cities. For instance, the journey from Bhopal to Indore, which typically takes several hours by train or road, will now take just 55 minutes by air.
Future expansion plans
MPTB Principal Secretary and Managing Director Sheo Shankar Shukla expressed optimism about the service’s future. “Based on the initial response, we plan to expand the service. We are starting with six-seater twin-engine planes, but we aim to upgrade to 11-seater and then 20-seater aircraft to accommodate more passengers,” Shukla told PTI.
Commitment to safety and quality
Emphasizing the safety and standards of the new service, Shukla assured that the aircraft meet international safety standards and that the service will be regular and competitively priced. “These planes are very safe and meet international standards. We are going to provide the best and regular service at competitive prices,” he added.
This new intra-state air service is poised to revolutionize travel within Madhya Pradesh, offering faster, safer, and more convenient options for residents and visitors alike.
