TVS Motor Co has entered West Bengal with a manufacturing deal with Mahabharat Motor Co, a motorcycle manufacturing venture jointly promoted by Indonesia?s Salim group and non-resident Indian Prasoon Mukherjee?s Universal Success Entreprise. Under the agreement, Mahabharat Motor Co will be producing motorcycles under the TVS brand, with the TVS marketing the products. Mahabharat Motor was set up in 2005, towards the fag end of C M Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee?s first term, with plans to make low-cost motorcycles based on a Chinese model.
TVS will also be providing the technology for production of the bikes and will extend training facility to develop skilled manpower. In the initial phase, the target production is 1,00,000 units and target date for production is June 2009. Mahabharat Motor is investing Rs 400 crore initially over the next three years to set up the factor.
