Just when the episode surrounding Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen was about to be turned into a political controversy, the Centre sought to put an end to it, asserting that she would get appropriate security wherever she was.
The decision to ensure government?s backing to Nasreen was taken at a special meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security convened here on Friday.
Dismissing reports that the Centre had asked the West Bengal government to move the controversial writer out of the state, a home ministry spokesperson said Nasreen had a valid Indian visa till February 17 next year, and she would be provided adequate security till her stay.
He added that the Centre could speak to state governments concerned to ensure that she got proper protection.
Nasreen was brought to Jaipur from Kolkata on Thursday night, following violent protests from some groups against her stay in the city.
