Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is getting back to routine work. Just five weeks after a major bypass surgery, Singh is back at the helm of affairs, although the pace is not as hectic as it had been before the operation.
The Prime Minister on Wednesday held discussions with top officials also received vice-president Hamid Ansari who came to enquire about his health. PMO sources said on Thursday that Singh held meetings with cabinet secretary KM Chandrashekhar and foreign secretary Shiv Shanker Menon.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of the terror attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore and India’s bid to get back Mahatma Gandhi?s personal belongings, that was to be up for auction in New York tomorrow. Reports from New York has now come that the current owner of Gandhi?s belongings has cancelled the auction and is negotiating with the Indian government.
The Prime Minister had his first public engagement on Wednesday when he held discussions that stretched for over an hour an a half with Boni Yayi, President of African country Benin. He looked fine and waved at the media. He also held discussions on Wednesday with union home minister P Chidambaram who briefed him about the country?s internal security situation.
