Hoping that the US will not allow letting go Pakistan?s nuclear weapons into the ?wrong hands,? New Delhi said the weapons are ?safely guarded? by the Musharraf regime. This is notwithstanding the fact that Pakistan?s internal situation has deteriorated in the last some weeks.
It also said that India is equipped to deal with a situation if ?radicals? in the neighbouring country get access to the nuclear weapons.
?It is not easy for just a couple of people to manage a nuclear device. As the national security adviser, I cannot activate this on my own. I would therefore say it (Pakistani nuclear arsenal) is relatively safe,? national security adviser MK Narayanan told a TV channel.
The US government is also paying close attention to avoid the radicals in the country getting access to the weapons, Narayanan said, adding that the US is ?quite satisfied with the checks and balances.?
?There has been infiltration of radical elements in the armed forces. I believe that during Pervez Musharraf?s tenure as Army Chief and now under General Ashfaq Kiyani steps have been taken against them,? Narayanan said.
