Citizen participation

This is with reference to the editorial Participative governance (FE, July 29). Now, in my opinion, the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to start a new website Meri Sarkar or My Gov that aims to enable citizen participation will not be productive because it is the government which wishes to seek opinion about the project to be launched by it. My opinion is based on the fact that the government wanted Food Security Act and it got passed, ignoring the fact that more than 80% of the population in villages have their own wheat or rice after the period of harvesting is over. Come to think of it, most of the people in villages are not generally dependent on PDS foodgrains. However, one can go on writing to the drafters or to the government but nobody is ready to listen against what has been proposed by the government. Now, who is going to listen against GSTpoor consumer will have to pay 22% or 16% and the rich (indirect tax payer) as consumer will pay 0% because of GST credit. Similarly, DTC, in my view, is another Food Security Act. Every where it is the lobbyists who are heard.
