In a new low for Indian Parliament, members of DMK and AIADMK on Friday pushed and shoved each other and almost traded blows in the Rajya Sabha amidst by now-familiar scenes of sloganeering over demands of a joint parliamentary committee probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

The ugly scenes took place when the Rajya Sabha convened at 12 noon for the second time during the day after being adjourned for an hour in the morning. While BJP and AIADMK members reached the well shouting slogans demanding the JPC probe even as the deputy chairman K Rehman Khan tried in vain to conduct some business, DMK member K P Ramalingam quietly walked through the treasury benches and put up a placard with Arrest Jaya (AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha) for stolen land in Kodanadu estate written on it.

An infuriated AIADMK member A Elavarasan charged towards him and tried to snatch the paper, leading to a scuffle between him and Ramalingam. Joined by his colleague N Balaganga, Elavarasan finally did manage to snatch the placard, and tore it away. An angry Ramalingam then pushed Elavarasan, who retaliated in equal measure. The two almost came to blows before other members, including Congress MPs Rashid Alvi and Rajiv Shukla and AIADMK member V Maitreyan, intervened and pulled them away as a shocked Rehman Khan watched helplessly and was rendered helpless.

As sloganeering continuedwith Maitreyan now joining in with shouts of 'Arrest Raja'the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till the afternoon. The AIADMK and DMK have been at loggerheads over the Kodanadu estate owned by Jayalalitha.
