Notwithstanding in possession of an emotive issue in the form of ill-conceived affidavit by the government in the Supreme Court on Lord Ram, the BJP on Wednesday seized an opportunity to criticise the Centre for rising onion prices in the country and predicted that the Congress would meet a similar fate, which it had to bear with about a decade ago on the issue.

??We had faced the consequences of onion price rise once and it is time for the Congress to pay the price politically,?? BJP president Rajnath Singh said here while slamming the Manmohan Singh government for the rising inflationary graph.

The BJP had lost Assembly elections in Delhi in 1998, when the then Opposition Congress cashed in on the onion price issue to oust the Sushma Swaraj government.

??Had the government taken adequate precaution, the prices of onion would not have skyrocketed. Not only onion, the prices of all commodities have shot up after this government came to power,?? Singh added.
