Punjab has completed the process of pre-bidding to develop three bus terminals cum multiplexes at Mohali, Bathinda and Patiala, on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. The bus terminals cum multiplexes would cost about Rs 200 core each and would be built on Public-Private-Participation(PPP) model.
The bidders have been issued bid documents after pre-bidding process and the process of bids is likely to be completed in next 30 days. After technical and financial clearance, these bids are to be sent to executive committee headed by chief secretary, Ramesh Inder Singh. The work on these projects is likely to be taken up by August 15 after selected developers deposit up front money.
Managing director of the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), Sukhbir Singh Sandhu told FE ?DLF India, Indiabulls, Gammon, GMR Infrastructure, Parsvnath, Unitech and Omaxe are among the top companies that have evinced interest in constructing three state-of-the-art bus terminals in Punjab on the Hong Kong pattern having shopping malls, multiplexes etc on their upper floors while ground floor would be exclusive bus terminals?.
The unique bus terminals would be fully air-conditioned and would involve a total capital outlay of about Rs 600 crores. This would be the first-of-its-kind concept with Hong Kong being the only exception. Sandhu claimed that as many as 28 companies had filed expression of interest for Mohali bus terminal-cum-commercial complex alone. He further said that the selected developer would recover the amount spent on the construction work from the commercial space to be developed on the upper floors of the bus terminal.
He told FE that Mohali bus terminal-cum-commercial complex would come up on about 6.6 acres, Patiala bus terminal on about 10 acres while modern bus terminal at Bathinda would come up on an existing site. The terminals would be commissioned within next three years, he added.
