Even as the Army is getting ready to receive its first indigenous main battle tank ?Arjun? from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the army chief is seeking a new generation MBT of international level.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the first international seminar on Armoured Fighting Vehicles organised by the Directorate General of Mechanised Forces, along with the CII, Army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor said on Tuesday ?What we have today is mid-level technology. What we need is a tank of international quality.?
?I have no doubt that the DRDO will be able to develop indigenous capabilities for coming up with a better answer and more versatile armoured fighting vehicle (than Arjun) in the future.? The chief also called for synergy between scientists, users and producers to ensure the delivery of a cutting-edge-technology tank. He observed that,?The scientists cannot work in isolation. The users (the army) should be with them.?
