MS Dhoni’s hands have done it again — faster than a Google search, quicker than your reflex to hit “Skip Ad”. The Chennai Super Kings legend pulled off yet another jaw-dropping stumping against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, proving that age is just a number but his reaction time is still superhuman.
The victim this time was Phil Salt. The English opener had started looking dangerous when Noor Ahmad’s googly in the fifth over deceived him. Salt lifted his foot for just a fraction of a second, barely enough time to blink, let alone react. But for Dhoni, that was all he needed. With a flick of the wrist, the bails were off, Salt was walking back on 32 and fans were rubbing their eyes in disbelief.

And just in case you’re wondering how fast exactly — Dhoni’s reaction time? A mind-blowing 0.16 seconds. That’s faster than you can say “Thala for a reason!” Even Danny Morrison couldn’t hide his amazement at Dhoni’s lightning-fast stumping from the commentary box. As the replay rolled, it was revealed that even Dhoni himself wasn’t entirely sure if Phil Salt was out, signaling to Noor Ahmad that it was a 50-50 call. But Morrison had no doubts, exclaiming, “I think that’s a signal for ‘See you later, Salty! You’re out of here, son. You’re not quick enough!’”
This isn’t even Dhoni’s best of the season. In CSK’s IPL 2025 opener, he dismissed Suryakumar Yadav in 0.12 seconds, which is basically the speed of light in cricketing terms.
Dhoni’s stumpings have been the stuff of legend for years and for good reason. Here’s a little perspective: he collects the ball just six inches behind the stumps with zero margin for error. The timing has to be absolutely perfect; if he gathers it even slightly ahead and in line with the stumps, it’s a no-ball. Yet, time and again, he executes it flawlessly.
