Oscar-winning Hollywood actor and actress Angelina Jolie’s father Jon Voight has voiced his disdain against New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

Taking to X, Voight, known for his films ‘Coming Home, Midnight Cowboy, and Deliverance’, shared a video appeal, urging President Donald Trump to “terminate” Mamdani’s win in the recently-held elections.

“Only [Trump] can stop this horror, as this mayor, Mamdani, will try to destroy New York’s wealth and turn it into a socialist crap city…Let this be a warning to the people and may God bless,” Voight said in the video.

‘Mamdani has radical Muslim ideology’

In the video, Voight also referred to Mamdani as a “communist” who will turn New York City “turn into a virtual refugee shelter for the radical Muslim ideology.”

“This mayor will destroy this city. We are obligated to demand our rights for our private sanctuary, our businesses, our property that we all have worked so hard for,” he further said.

Trump called Voight a ‘special ambassador’

At the start of his second term, Trump had appointed Voight as a special ambassador to the entertainment industry, along with actors Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone.

He had tasked the group to address Hollywood’s decline in foreign production, The Hill had previously reported.

Trump-Mamdani ties set to evolve?

Trump, who had called for the deportation of Mamdani, while also threatening to cut federal funding for the city if the latter rose to power, has now indicated that he has plans to meet the 34-year-old leader.

Trump stated that Mamdani has expressed interest in meeting him in Washington DC, and said, “We’ll work something out.”

However, no date for their meeting has been set yet, the White House confirmed.

Mamdani, who became a naturalised US citizen in 2018, will be sworn in as NYC mayor on January 1, 2026, at the Gracie Mansion, which is the official residence of New York City mayors.
