A bodycam video showing an Indian woman sobbing and gasping while being interrogated by police at a Target store in US has gone viral online. While the footage is circulating now, the incident reportedly took place on January 15 this year, reported TOI.
The video was uploaded by a YouTube channel and quickly gained attention as the woman revealed she is Gujarati.
The authenticity of the video and the woman’s identity have not been verified.
Woman Reveals Background Amid Interrogation
In the footage, the woman can be seen choking and panting as officers said she had been in this condition for the last 40 minutes and did not reveal any details. She was asked her primary language. “Gujarati,” she said, fumbling. The cops asked where it was, and she said ‘India’. She was asked whether she would need any interpreter, to which she said she wouldn’t. The woman was also asked whether she had any medical issues, as she was hyperventilating.
The woman revealed that she had a driver’s license from Washington. During the interrogation, it was revealed that she was a serial shoplifter from that Target store, though this was the first time she was stopped. She admitted that she was going to resell some of the items she stole.
Cops Let Her Go With Warning
As the questioning continued, the woman received a call from an unidentified person. “We are letting you go today,” the cops said adding that she would be charged with trespassing if she returned to that Target store again. She was also told that she would have to appear in court in connection with the case, repoerted TOI.
The video comes at a time when another shoplifting incident involving a Gujarati woman at a Target store in Illinois drew significant attention. In that case, the woman had stolen $1,300 worth of items and promised to pay for them after being caught.
