A new artwork hangs in the White House State Floor. Ushering a new change, the official residence in Washington D.C. has replaced former President Barack Obama’s portrait with a painting on canvas illustrating the iconic aftermath of President Donald Trump‘s 2024 assassination attempt.

The White House’s official social media account shared the news by posting an image of the brand-new Trump painting which shows a portrait of the MAGA leader pumping his right fist in the air with blood on his face. The Trump portrait has been installed in the Grand Foyer of the White House, as per CNN.

AP’s iconic Trump assassination attempt photo made into White House painting

Although the official SNS account didn’t credit the artwork in light of the Trump administration’s legal battle with the Associated Press, one can’t forget that the original AP photo was taken by the agency’s Pulitzer prize-winning photographer Evan Vucci. The iconic shot, now translated into an artwork by artist Marc Lipp, as per USA Today, vividly brings alive the moments after Donald Trump survived a near-fatal shooting incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year while campaigning for his presidential re-election bid.

The new Trump painting brings back memories of the then-presidential candidate being huddled by Secret Service agents as blood trickled down his cheek after a bullet grazed his ear. Evan Vucci snapped the iconic shot, which also features an American flag flying above the Republican politician, on July 13, 2024. It eventually broke the internet.

New Donald Trump painting: White House tradition

As Donald Trump’s assassination attempt portrait replaces Barack Obama’s official photo in one of the most prominent spots in the East Wing of the White House, the 44th president’s picture still remains in the official residence. It has merely been moved across the Grand Foyer, displacing a President George W Bush portrait. His photo, in turn, has been moved to join his father by a nearby staircase. Meanwhile, a Joe Biden portrait has yet to be finished.

According to CNN, the Trump painting installation continues the White House tradition which calls for recent American presidents’ portraits to be placed in the most significant place so that guests can instantly spot it during official events. During his first term, Trump moved Bill Clinton and George W Bush’ portraits from the Grand Foyer, spotlighting William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, instead.

An official has since revealed that while an official Donald Trump portrait has yet to be unveiled, the president wanted to memorialise the prominent life-changing moment from Butler.
