Soon after taking oath as Pakistan Prime Minister for the second time, Shehbaz Sharif (72) lost no time and raked the Kashmir issue again. He called for a resolution for the Kashmiri and Palestinian people in the Pakistan National Assembly.
“Let’s all come together…and the National Assembly should pass a resolution for the freedom of Kashmiris and Palestinians,” said the PM in his maiden speech.
Shehbaz Sharif took oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan amidst staggering economic and security challenges faced by the country.
President Arif Alvi administered the oath to Sharif in a ceremony held at the President’s residence.
After the General Elections 2024, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party agreed on a power-sharing deal to form a coalition government.
Earlier, from April 2022 to August 2023, Shehbaz served as prime minister of a coalition government before Parliament was dissolved to hold general elections last month.
On Sunday, Shehbaz easily won a majority in the newly-elected Parliament amidst sloganeering by the Opposition. Shehbaz received 201 votes in the 336-member Parliament.
In the February 8 elections, the Sharifs-led party failed to garner a clear majority. However, it is the largest party with 75 out of the 265 contested seats.
