The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued warnings of potential heavy rainfall in several areas of Bagmati and Koshi, advising the public to exercise caution while traveling. In a notice, the authority stated that the heavy rain is expected to continue until Friday.
The authority warned of landslides and flash floods in its notice stating that after the heavy rainfall since late September, the land in various areas has weakened, and even light rain could lead to further damage.
Landslides and flash floods risk
An alert has also been issued by the Weather Forecasting Division that the monsoon winds are affecting Nepal and are resulting in changes in the weather conditions. The NDRRMA has directed people to be extra vigilant especially in the regions where land has already become vulnerable. An advisory has also been issued for the public to take shelter in safe locations on the highways during heavy rains in order to lessen the risk.
Nepal Weather Update
As per the Weather Department, it is predicted that there will not be continuous downpours on Wednesday and Thursday but there is a chance of light showers in some areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Bagmati. Heavy showers along with thunderstorms will be prevalent in some regions throughout the day and night but they won’t be as intense as last week, as stated by Govinda Jha, a metrologist.
Despite the warning, the Division has assured the citizens that there is no need to panic but has urged people to be alert, especially in the vulnerable regions. The weather is forecast to be partly cloudy for this week accompanied by light showers in some areas.
