After the massive double earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in Myanmar on March 28, a third earthquake has sit the capital city at a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter Scale at 2.50 pm IST today, March 29. At the lat: 19.94 N, long: 95.96 E at a depth of 10 km as shared by the National Centre for Seismology

Taking over a 1,000 lives in Myanmar, the earthquake also hit neighbouring regions like Bangkok where a construction building collapsed trapping many workers inside. Disturbing visuals have been shared on social media showing overflowing infinity pools and shaking maternity wards. The natural disaster has uprooted thousands of families. Declaring a state of emergency in Thailand, the international relief has flown in from India and China.

Earlier in the day on March 29, fifteen tonnes of relief material released by India reached Myanmar containing medical supplies, food and other essentials. Along with the material, India’s 80 NDRF personnel are on their way to the disaster stricken Nay Pyi Taw. In a post on X, S Jaishankar shared the release of another 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid headed for the port of Yangon.

As a part of #OperationBhrahma, PM Modi also shared on social media that he, “Spoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. As a close friend and neighbour, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. Disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search & rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of the operation.”
