Two flash bombs were fired toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home in the northern town of Caesarea on Saturday evening. According to police, the bombs landed in the garden of the property, causing no damage. Netanyahu and his family were not present at the time, reports Reuters.

A Violation of Security Norms

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz condemned the attack, stating that it “crossed all red lines.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Katz emphasised that threats to the Prime Minister, whether external or internal, are unacceptable.

“It is not possible for the Prime Minister of Israel, who is threatened by Iran and its proxies who are trying to assassinate him, to be subject to the same threats from home,” Katz stated. He called for urgent action by security and judicial agencies to address the incident.

The attack drew sharp condemnation from other Israeli leaders. President Isaac Herzog described the incident as “crossing all boundaries” and confirmed an investigation is underway. Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir also expressed outrage, labelling the act as a grave escalation in incitement against Netanyahu.

“The incitement against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu crosses all boundaries. Throwing a flash bomb into his house tonight is crossing another red line,” Ben-Gvir said on X.

This is not the first security breach targeting Netanyahu’s residence in Caesarea. In October, a drone was launched toward the property, although it caused no harm. These incidents highlight growing concerns about the Prime Minister’s security amid ongoing tensions both domestically and regionally.

No Immediate Claims of Responsibility

While there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, the timing has raised alarms. To the north, Israeli forces have been engaged in intermittent exchanges of fire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah group since October 2023. However, there is no indication so far that this incident is connected to broader regional tensions.

Calls for Strengthened Security

The incident has intensified calls for tighter security measures to protect the Prime Minister and his family. As investigations proceed, Israeli authorities are likely to scrutinise potential motives and links to ongoing domestic or regional unrest.

This attack underscores the increasingly polarised political climate in Israel and the heightened risks facing its leaders.
