Taking a shot at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has predicted that he would lose his position in the upcoming federal election set for October 20, 2025. Musk shared his prediction on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a post discussing the fall of Germany’s “socialist government”. “He will be gone in the next election,” Musk remarked. Trudeau currently heads a minority government.

Upcoming election in Canada

The forthcoming election is considered to be very crucial for Trudeau who has been heading Canada’s Liberal Party since 2013. The Liberal Party is currently in the minority and is expected to face tough competition from the Conservative Party which is led by Pierre Poilievre and by the New Democratic Party, headed by Jagmeet Singh. Other parties like Bloc Quebecois and the Green Party are also in the fray, thus risking the leadership of Trudeau. Musk’s recent remarks have fuelled the pressures Trudeau is facing. Some have even started questioning his party’s capability to resume power in the changing political scene.

Musk’s remark on German and Canadian leadership

Musk’s criticism is not restricted to Trudeau only as he has recently condemned German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, calling him a ”fool” on X after Scholz removed his finance minister, Christian Linder amid tensions in Germany’s ruling coalition. Scholz later clarified his reason behind the dismissal was to maintain stability in the country which is currently experiencing economic pressures as well as fierce competition fear from the US. The recent Republican victory in the US has resulted in a surge of conservative sentiment in both Germany as well in Canada.

Challenges ahead for Trudeau

Trudeau is currently facing a lot of backlash from the leader of the People’s Party of Canada Maxime Bernier who has criticised Trudeau’s immigration and climate policies. In Bernier’s view, Canada should focus on cutting taxes, lowering government spending, and boosting a business-friendly environment to compete with the US.

Canada-India Tension

Trudeau’s international challenges are also growing, especially with deteriorating relations with India. Tension between the two nations grew when the leaders of Canada made unproven allegations about India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. In response, India pulled out its High commissioner from Canada, further escalating the issue and impacting the bilateral ties between the two countries.
