In a gruesome incident, a 26-year-old woman in the US allegedly hammered her mother to death with a cooking pan after which she promptly called emergency services confessing her act. The police said that a domestic dispute led to the assault at their residence on Westchester Avenue in Bronx, New York City, reported NBC News.
Skydajah Patterson, identified as the assailant, dialed 911 around 4 am, informing the operator, “I have just killed my mom,” claiming self-defense during the altercation. Officers promptly arrived at the scene to discover Selma McLean, aged 46, gravely injured with a visible wound to the back of her head, while Patterson was still holding the blood-stained kitchen pot. Authorities observed the absence of any other witnesses at the scene.
McLean tragically passed away due to her injuries, and she was declared deceased upon arrival at Lincoln Hospital. Patterson, on the other hand, was apprehended by authorities, although the specific charges she will face have not yet been disclosed.
According to the Metro news outlet, the deceased had reportedly contacted law enforcement on two previous occasions, alleging assaults by her daughter, Patterson.
Speaking to the New York Post, Danaeyah Reynolds, McLean’s goddaughter, disclosed Patterson’s recent discharge from a psychiatric ward in February. Reynolds expressed worry about Patterson’s declining mental health, citing occasions where Patterson displayed erratic behavior such as hearing voices and speaking in a man’s voice.
Moreover, Reynolds described arriving at the scene and being confronted with a distressing scene of blood, signifying the gravity of the tragic incident.
“When I arrived, I glanced inside and saw blood on the couch. They said it was too late to revive her. As I opened the door, all I could see was blood,” she recounted.
McLean, who was a mother of three, resided with two of her daughters, one of whom was Patterson.
