Solar Eclipse 2025 Timing in India: The first solar eclipse of 2025 is this weekend, and it’s already being billed as the “riskiest” of the year. Parts of the United States will bear witness to a partial solar eclipse on Saturday, March 29, 2025, which means that all times only a portion of the sun will be blocked. This is where the risk factor seeps in as enthusiasts hoping to witness the celestial event will be exposed to a partially eclipsed sun, which can cause severe eye damage.

The spectacular event comes two weeks after North America saw a “blood moon” total lunar eclipse. This year’s partial eclipse is a repeat performance of a similar eclipse that happened on June 10, 2021. Also being referred to as a double sunrise eclipse, a rare phenomenon where the Sun appears to rise twice, the forthcoming partial solar eclipse will be visible from several parts of the world. But will India witness the heavenly marvel? Here’s what we know.

When Will Solar Eclipse Visible in India?

Path of the eclipse shadow includes parts of Europe, North in Asia, North/West Africa, much of North America, North in South America, Atlantic and Arctic. The Saturday event can be seen by over 814 million people, which makes for 9.94% of the global population , per Timeanddate.com. However, not all of these individuals will get to watch the eclipse at its best.

Forbes explained that the partial solar eclipse will be visible one way or another across northeastern North America. Here the sun will rise in partial eclipse. Meanwhile, Greenland, Iceland, Western Europe and parts of northern Russia (where the sun will set in partial eclipse).

Akulivik, an Inuit village in Nunavik, northern Quebec, Canada, will witness the greatest partial eclipse as 93.8% of the sun’s disk will be covered by a new moon at sunrise here.

Double Sunrise effect

As for the regions witnessing the rare occurrence of the “double sunrise” effect, will be able to see a horizontal “smiley face” sunrise crescent appears on ocean horizon. When this happens, two cusps of the sun will appear to rise separately.

Locations where the Double Sunrise will be visible: Forestville, Quebec, Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, and Quoddy Head State Park, Maine.

Partial solar eclipse time

The whole eclipse will last three hours and 53 minutes. Beginning at 8:50 UTC (4:50 am EDT), the event will end at 12:43 UTC (8:43 am EDT). Various regions’ experience of it will vary. Although the eclipse will not be visible in India, the local timings for it will be: 2:20 pm to 6:13 pm.

To ensure safety while viewing the eclipse, people are advised to use eclipse glasses or solar filters. Sunglasses are not enough. Photographers must also use solar filters.

The next solar eclipse is also poised to be a partial one. It will occur on September 21 and will be witnessed only in the Southern Hemisphere. Happy partial social eclipse viewing!
