With the boom in the quick commerce industry, many of us have switched to apps like Blinkit, Swiggy, Zepto and BigBasket to buy groceries. While these platforms offer the convenience of doorstep delivery within minutes, they come with their own set of drawbacks. The first and foremost being the high prices compared to local stores. Another concern, at times, is product quality.

A Reddit user who bought eggs both online and from a local store noticed a difference not just in price, but also in size. “What a man must do to eat 6 eggs a day in today’s world,” the Redditor wrote, sharing a photo of the two eggs side by side.

The egg purchased from the local store turned out to be both cheaper and larger in size.

“Bought from a local store run by a grumpy old man for Rs 6.1 per egg. Each egg weighs 60g,” the text on one of the eggs read.

Another egg, which was smaller in size, has the text, “Swiggy Instamart, selling 30 eggs for Rs 300 with fancy packaging. That is Rs 10 per egg and a noticeably smaller 40 gm per egg.”

They added, “Available at a discounted price of 200, then 215 for your second order. Then 250 for your third order. Of course, don’t forget GST and handling delivery fees.”

Here’s what social media users have to say:

Many on social media agreed with the Redditor, with one saying, “Can confirm I buy 30 eggs for 160, the crate is empty in 3 days.”

Another added, “I buy from my local poultry farm at market price, and it weighs around 70~85gm.”

“I get mine for 165, for 30 eggs. 8 eggs daily and for eggs, I don’t think so, there is a better option than your local shop,” commented a third.

A fourth posted, “It doesn’t make sense not to buy from a local vendor.”

“Purchasing chicken from a local street butcher for 220 per kg. Purchasing eggs from my local kiraane ka dukaan, which is run by this old man and his family, a really sweet guy and always polite. On a grand scheme of things, these purchases might not matter to us at all, but these small shops and vendors are the ones giving us good quality protein at affordable prices, and they also appreciate the work we put in the gym. These big companies can never beat that,” expressed a fifth.
