Rohan Pandey, a member of OpenAI’s Training team, has announced his departure from the artificial intelligence lab. Sharing the news on social media, Pandey expressed his fondness for his colleagues and excitement about what lies ahead, stating, “Already miss everyone on the Training team & my friends but very excited to soon announce what’s next.”
While he has yet to reveal his next professional chapter, Pandey shared that he will be dedicating his immediate future to an ambitious cultural-tech project: building OCR (Optical Character Recognition) systems for Sanskrit. His goal is to digitize and preserve the classical Indian literary canon by embedding its essence into artificial intelligence models.
“Until then, I’ll be taking a break to solve OCR for Sanskrit so we can immortalize the classical Indian literary canon in the weights of superintelligence,” he tweeted.
His announcement has sparked interest across both the tech and academic communities, with many applauding the effort to preserve classical knowledge through modern tools.
